Safer Internet Day 2022
Today is Safer Internet Day, and the theme for this year is 'All fun and games. Exploring respect and relationships online.'
We've been doing a lot of work towards online safety in school, including being awarded a National Online Safety accreditation. For safer internet day, there are lots of things going on in and around school in the coming days.
- Students will find a quiz to complete on SatchelOne, and if they score 100%, they will receive an achievement point - remember these are house points! The closing date to complete the quiz is Friday 11th February.
- There is also an exciting competition to design a game concept! The game should be specifically about forming and sustaining respectful relationships. There will be prizes for the winners of each year group, as well as house points up for grabs. The closing date for entries is the 18th Feb, and the winners will be announced after half term.
- In assemblies and form time, students will cover material about being kind online, communicating with others properly, respect and behaviour in gaming, not revealing personal information to strangers, and reporting and blocking people.
There are plenty of other ways to continue the online safety education too - our National Online Safety subscription gives parents access to the hub too, which has a wide range of online safety guides and videos should you wish to learn more about the types of games and apps your child might be accessing. In a developing digital world it might feel difficult to stay on top of what your child is doing online, but for their safety and wellbeing it is more important than ever.
The guides on National Online Safety show you how to set up parental controls on your devices, managing screen time, guides to various games and what these may entail, and online language used that may be unfamiliar to some. They also delve into deeper issues such as social pressures surrounding; appearance, social media influencers, gaining friends and followers, and gaining likes. Remember to access these guides you just need to login! Visit our online safety page to see how.
