Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships combine a practical job with studying, and so you can earn a wage alongside gaining a qualification. You will be learning and progressing skills inside the workplace, whilst studying (usually one day a week) at a college.
As part of national apprenticeships week, Amazing Apprenticeships has put together a really useful guide for parents: Access PDF
The Amazing Apprenticeships website explains what they are: https://amazingapprenticeships.com/apprenticeships/
UCAS also has a great section for understanding all about apprenticeships: https://www.ucas.com/understanding-apprenticeships
Finding an apprenticeship is a bit like finding a job, so knowing where to look is really important. These websites are a good place to start:
- gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship
- notgoingtouni
- alllaboutschoolleavers
- getmyfirstjob.co.uk
- Check the Shropshire Star on Thursdays for opportunities
- Look at employment agencies such as: Job Search, Monster, Indeed, fish4jobs, Universal Jobmatch, Jobsite, Total Jobs, Job Centre Plus, Shropshire Council Jobs, WM Jobs, Careers Events
- Ask family and friends if they know of any opportunities
A good time to apply is February/March of your leaving year. You can register your interest with the providers below earlier however.
Apply for College as a backup, in case you are unsuccessful at getting an apprenticeship initially.
